I wanted to explore the reason behind our culture's use of the cherry to represent perfection and the obsession with perfection. I decided to look at our notion of what we believe is perfection and try to challenge it. We have many phrases that are used as code to represent this idea. We say things like, "That car is cherried out.", "Cherry pickin'","Bowl full of cherries" and "With a cherry on top". Not to mention the connection that's made to female anatomy.
Why is the cherry used as the embodiment of perfection? Is it the shape of the fruit or the taste. If the cherry is smashed is it still perfection? It is still a cherry, and still tastes of cherry. What about sour cherries, old cherries and maraschino cherries?
